Good things come in twos

Today marks exactly two months until D.C., and two weeks until graduation [and this is all going by ridiculously fast and agh].
Packing is the new hot topic regarding Germany, seeing as I've given up on news from a host family-- that could come any time between now and August, and my inbox's refresh button is about ready to break. In half. And splatter pixels everywhere.

How on earth will my stuff fit into one suitcase, and stay under 50 pounds? Boots and a snow jacket and sneakers and jeans and my laptop are heavy, and are necessities at that. Plus everything else, plus host family presents, plus taking into consideration that the suitcase itself is going to take up a fair amount of that 50 lb.

Theoretically, this is impossible.
[but regardless, I can't wait :):):) ]

Countdowns

20 days until graduation, 70 until Germany.
Only 50 days between the two; what a nice, round number for the hiatus:)

In addition, I desperately want to know where I'll be living next year. People on the facebook group and forums are beginning to hear back from their Deutschfamilien as well- but I want my host family toooo. Patience is not in great supply at the moment. At all.

I don't think I'll quite believe all this it until I'm boarding my plane-- or perhaps not even until I'm off eating bratwursts somewhere. Bratwursts essen und Deutsch sprechen und so viel Leute treffen.

70 days is a long, long time.

Baby Steps

Germany is on my miiind, and senioritis is becoming crippling with less than two weeks worth of school days left.
But: I booked my flight the other day, from dear Washington to Washington D.C.!
The 250 CBYX kids from the States being sent to Germany are divided into five regional organizations, each of which travel to Washington D.C. in groups of fifty for a five-day orientation before boarding our international flight.
So. It's booked.
I'm leaving July 29th, and it can't possibly come fast enough. :)

Of All Places

... Germany?

I'm a senior, with graduation in less than a month. College had always been the plan after graduation, and Germany was nowhere even near my radar. So where did it come from?
After extensive scheduling issues last year, I saw an open seat in the German 200 class. The counselor said it wasn't an option, as I hadn’t taken German 100. In addition, I was already a fourth-year French student.
I told him to sign me up.
I studied over the summer and made do. A couple months into the class an alumni visited, having recently returned from Germany. He had gone there on a scholarship, and when later pumping out college applications, I tossed caution to the wind and applied for the same one. It was sent off with a healthy dose of skepticism, and yet after a somewhat lengthy process, I received an affirmative response.
So.
I'm going to Germany(:

I'll be going for a year on a scholarship, repping the U.S. through the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange program. I'll use this blog to keep a tab on my adventures throughout the year, and look forward to sharing them!

:)
